PREFACE.
Soon after the first notice was issued that a Directory for Dundee was in the course of publication, several unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances occurred, tending to retard its progress and delay its appearance. Perfect accuracy in such a publication as the present is hardly attainable, although the greatest care and attention have been bestowed in collecting the informa- tion, and making up the lists. Any omissions or errors, how^ever, which may have inadvertently crept in, it is confidently trusted will be found neither numerous nor material. A supplementary sheet, con- taining lists of the Magistrates and Town Council, Police Commissioners, Harbour Trustees, &c. will be published immediately after the elections take place, with any other alterations, corrections, or additions which may appear necessary, or which the publisher may receive before that time.
